Our Recent Meetings
MEETING UPDATE:
Our First Meeting for 2009!
Wednesday 11th March 2009
Dr Naren Gunja welcomed us all back and delivered an interesting short talk on toxicology entitled:
"Serpents: a summer of envenoming"
This was followed by an interesting walkthrough of the Emergency Department.
We had a fantastic turnout and we warmly welcome our Med 1 students.
Once again this was a great opportunity to learn more about the ED at Westmead Hospital and get to know other Westmead Medical Students.

ECG Session
TUESDAY 26th May 2009
Western Clincial School, JS Museum
Dr Naren Gunja will delivered a short introduction into reading ECGs to a full house. This was followed by a break out session. These small groups allowed participants to practice the ECG skills with the immediate help of a tutor! Overall feedback from students was highly positive.
Many thanks to all involved and thanks again to the enthusiatic ED staff.

Paediatrics Resuscitation Workshop
The EMIG with the assistance of Dr Fenton O'Leary and other Children's Hospital doctors hosted an invaluable workshop.
Using the advanced simulation centre at the Children's Hospital Westmead participants were able to partake in simulated resusitation scenes, putting theory into practice.
Participants completed an on line learning module prior to attending the workshop and upon successful completion of both the e learning and practical session they were later presented with a certificate of completion.
This is a unique opportunity for medical students from all years across our Graduate Medical Program at the Western Clinical School to augment their clinical skills.
Once again, thank you to all the clinical staff involved in this event!

BASIC and ADVANCED AIRWAYS SESSION
With the assistance of the ED Staff, The EMIG hosted an airways training session. We were able to run two skill levels focusing on those that have never undertaken airway intubation before.
Everyone had fun and were grateful for the opportunity to be taught by experts from the Emergency Department.

" NOT SO GRAND ROUNDS "
This was our first ever edition of 'Not So Grand Rounds'!
What a great success it was and all the facilitators thank our student colleagues for their continued support of The EMIG. Remember, The EMIG is FOR students and run BY students, so the agenda will continue to address the needs and interests of students.
Congratulations to both Jen Coleman and Lilly Jenkins for presenting their E.D. rotation experiences. Your case submissions were well received by all students. Your presentations made the afternoon a real success.
Many thanks to Dr. Naren Gunja for your great presentation.
A special mention to our Clinical School Dean Professor David Harris, we appreciate your presence at the meeting and your support of The EMIG.
Finally thank you to Dr. James Kwan, Dr. Amanda Harrison, Kristen Colless, Margaret Fernandes and to any others that helped The EMIG.
